Day 8
So much for my early start this morning - indeed, the alarm does go off at 06:30 - but I didn't get to sleep until gone 2! That'll teach me to stay up watching TV all night. But I'm wide-awake - of course I am - it's match day! The Gills are playing, so the excitement pumping through my blood is as intense as it would be if I was with the boys in the pub! I snuck a beer back to the room last night, so I open it, and sing the Last Waltz at the top of my voice - forgetting the time - guess my neighbours have an enforced early start to their days too!!
Still, tonight is my last night, so I don't give a shit! And it's Millwall - we always beat Millwall at home - surely the lads wont let me down today!
The game starts - I don't know what to do with myself - do I lie on the bed, stand in the room (like some sort of eegit!) or sit on the sofa - it's just too much, I want to be there! I can hear the crowd in the background, singing all the songs that I'm usually a part of - oh bugger it, I decide to join in! We go one behind - bollocks - I'm not a happy bunny! But soon after we equalise - YES - Big Mama pulls us level. The rest of the half sounds a bit tame, so I head into the bathroom to have a shave - with the audio still going. Just before half time, non-other than Paul Shaw sends us into the lead - I have trouble containing my joy - the windows shake as I let out an almighty yell! I remember that I'm shaving, and nearly cut myself - ooops! *note to Keith - don't shave whilst listening to the football - it could kill you*
I look out the balcony, and some guests from the hotel opposite are looking in my general direction rather quizzically - I go back in the room to grab my scarf - then return to the balcony and wave it above my head!! "English thug" they're probably thinking, but I know that's not true - right?!?
Then Millwall head into a 3-2 lead - how did this happen - I must've missed something. I'm downbeat, but the introduction of super Hot Rod perks me up - I can sense a goal coming, and sure enough, Millwall's perpetual tormentor Marlon bangs one in. You guessed-it, another yell, more scarf-waving, and general twattyness! Then we get another - it's Nyron - 4-3 - what a game! And typical - we haven't scored at home this season so far, and today we get 4 - but I'm not complaining!! I am the happiest I've been since leaving England - no offence to anyone here, but nothing compares to the Gills winning!
The whistle blows and I'm thoroughly exhausted - sorry Jem!! - and it's only 08:50!! Hope Jemma wasn't intending to get any sleep on Saturday mornings, as this will be a weekly occurrence - but let's be realistic about it - I can see myself sitting on the balcony next time, with the door closed!!
Only a few hours until I have to go to the airport, so I'm gonna head out for some tucker...
YEY - Jem's flight is early, so I don't have to hang around the airport for too long - I hate airports! Hmm, cuddles - I missed that!! We get back to the hotel, drop off a few bits, then head off to Fantasy Island - I now have someone with me who knows what good shirts and trousers look like, so I can get the rest of my work clothes. I get 3 more shirts and a pair of trousers - nice!
We're both pretty knackered - Jem, because of her long flight, and me because of my lack of sleep - we decide to get some munchies at the supermarket, and head back to the hotel to have a chilled evening-in! Why did we go shopping when we're hungry - we leave with enough food to feed a small army!!
Oh yeah - the cigarette paper thing - I told Jem that they don't sell rizlas here, and ended up paying over $8 for 4 packs of their equivalent - she said she'd bring some out for me - great! She brought 90 - yes 90 - packets of small reds! That's 4500 individual rizlas (or, enough to smoke more than 50 roll-ups per day I have left!)!! I didn't realise I smoked that much - still, if I run out of toilet paper, or get lost, end up in the desert, and get caught-short, I can always lick-and-stick a couple of packet's worth together!!! Not just a pretty face me!
By about 21:00 we're both dead to the world - with loads of food left-over! Off to another hotel tomorrow, so goodnight Hilton, thanks for having me!
