Day 15
It's Saturday morning -so you know what that means - yes, the Mighty Gills are away at Cardiff City - and Keith is up to logon to Gills World and follow the boys. Only one problem - my alarm doesn't go off until 07:45 - I've missed the entire first half. Bugger - must've set it wrong last night - not a good start to the day! I then try to hook-up the laptop to the Internet, but typical - something's not working! I spend the next 40 minutes on the phone to reception, and eventually the service provider - we finally get the problem resolved, and I get to the site - SHIT - we're 4-0 down! If I'd've known that, I'd've stayed in bed!! However, I've never run-out on the Gills, no matter how bad it gets, and I follow it through - 5-0 - bollocks!
Still, we have a long drive up to LA, so I have plenty of time to get over it! After an hour on the road, we get to Hollywood - WOW - the Walk of Fame is really long - but Jem spots the Hollywood sign, so we try and drive nearer to it, to get a snap (typical tourists I know!!). After driving around like a pair of eegits, we don't find it - it was there one minute, and disappeared the next - so we head back to Hollywood Boulevard!
We walk straight up to the Chinese Theatre - it's quite a sight, and there's the typical tourists with their cameras - Jem!! For those of you who don't know, this is the place where they show the World Premieres of movies (like Leicester Square in London) but it's also where movie star's hand and footprints are forever encased in concrete - what a lovely thought! Definitely worth coming to see though, as the outside looks wicked. We shoot next door to the mall, and have some food.
We end up walking nearly the entire length of the street, then back again - pausing only to avoid the Marilyn Monroe look-a-like! In a way, it's not the glitz and glamour that you'd expect - maybe you get that at night time when all the lights are on - but it was worth the drive up here. And with Beverly Hills just down the road, we decide to jump back in the motor and have a cruise around - Sunset Boulevard, Rodeo Drive, The Beverly Hills Hotel, Diana Ross's House (?!?) - it's a completely different world!
Back at the hotel, we chill for a bit, then head out for something to eat - we spot a Chinese restaurant at Fantasy Island, and head there - but there's an hour and a half wait for a table!! Man, they must do some top nosh in this place - we make a mental note to reserve a table for tomorrow night, and go to ThaiFoon instead. There's a 45 minute wait here too, but we just sit at the bar and have a couple of drinks.
Having been there 5 minutes, the guy sitting next to me picks up on the accent, and asks where I'm from. I say England - he says whereabouts - I say near London - he says whereabouts - I say south-east - he says where exactly - I say near Dartford - he says "no way" - it turns out he's a doctor, and used to work at Joyce Green and West Hill hospitals back in the 60's!! Small world! I chat to him, and Jem chats to the barman (who's ex-bird lived near Leeds) and between us we manage to find some local hotspots near the beach - some of which serve Guinness!! And the food was good too, so we might come back another time.
We decide to check out one of the barman's recommendations in Laguna Beach (about 10 minutes drive away) - it's a small bar, but apparently it gets quite racy! Think we got there a bit early, or on the wrong night, as it's pretty quiet - and you can't smoke inside - not too sure if we'll make it our local, but it was OK!
By now I'm pretty tired, after all my driving, so it's time for bed - my favourite part of the day.
Note to everyone who's emailed me and not got a reply - will reply when I get a chance - not really had time
Note to Jon - the Mighty Gills just had a momentary lapse - just like my bowels after too much Guinness!
Note to Craig - welcome home - read the site to see how things are going, I refuse to waste 10p on a text message to a disgusting individual like yourself (hope the holiday was OK!!!)
